I was so shocked to hear about this today, March 20, too late to attend the service. My husband, Kevin and I, would surely have done so.
Mark was very special to me. We, as young children, were often together. His family visited at my parents’ home often. There, he, my siblings, and I would enjoy hours of time together while his parents and mine enjoyed each other’s company. There was so much laughter and fun. Mark was so jovial, kind, and friendly. What a sense of humor he had!
When he went to Viet Nam, we wrote back and forth regularly. He sent me some beautiful souvenirs. I was so happy he got home safely, unlike so many soldiers from this area and others. I was sad when he told me how military protocol called for him to wear the uniform on the way home, but that once arriving, he changed quickly; he knew that it could well be an unwelcome homecoming from some protestors. He will always be a hero to me.
As life went on, we didn’t get together as much. However, whenever we did, the feeling was just like old times.
I am so sad at his passing and still in shock. However, he is Where he knew he was going. He is with His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. All of his loved ones, including me, who have made Jesus our Savior will be with him again. This time it will be forever!
I have asked Jesus, if it is in His will, to tell Mark I love him and will see him on the Other Side.
