Little did I know Joe winnick would change the course of my career. I remember calling Brockport one summer and asking for guidance in starting my masters degree. Joe happened to be the only person in the department that day and recommended his 600 level program development course, which he was the instructor. Not exactly the idea I had for the start of my masters. During the Class Dr. Winnick had just secured an adapted early childhood grant, which he suggested I take. I was a little hesitant after the 600 program development class, but decided to give it a try. 19 years later I'm so thankful and blessed for his direction, and mentoring. Prayers to his family, friends, colleagues. What a wonderful life.

I am so sorry to hear of Dr Winnick's passing. He was an amazing influence in my life, as well as so many other teachers of Adapted PE; I feel so very fortunate to have had him as my mentor while I was a Graduate Assistant in his Masters program in Adapted PE. I will always be grateful to him for his dedication to Adapted PE and PA as well as his passion for being a leader for future Adapted PE teachers! His name will always be synonymous with excellence and quality PE for ALL students! Rest in Peace Dr Joe Winnick. You inspired so many!!!! Your legacy will live on for ever!

I worked with Joe for over 30 years at the College at Brockport on his external grants. He contributed so much to his field and assisted so many people around the world. It was an honor to work with him. He alsways put his students and children he worked with first. His dry sense of humor will be very missed. With deepest sympathy, Colleen Donaldsona3p8N

So sad to hear the news of Dr. Winnicks passing. He gave me the chance of a lifetime by accepting me into his masters scholarship program! That one opportunity changed my life (and many, many others) and without his hard work, passion and dedication to the grant program (and the field of APE) I’m not sure where my professional career would have ended up.
Dr. Winnick was a pioneer in the field, paving the way for further generations to make a difference. He was so kind and generous and I wish I had taken the time to share that with him!
His legacy will always live on through his students!!!
God bless his family, friends and all his amazing colleagues at Brockport.

So saddened to learn of Joe's passing. He was a good friend and colleague for so many years ... and a very competitive racquetball player! I was at Adelphi University and collected data for Project Unique and wrote a Chapter or two in his book for many years. My heartfelt condolences to all Joe's family. You have lost a remarkable father. We have lost a legend.

I am so very sorry for your loss Val, Bob, Kayla and Ryan. While our community has lost a legend, you all have lost family member... a void that can never be replaced. Joe Winnick was a huge part of my success while completing my undergraduate and graduate degrees at the college at Brockport. Being 1 of 9 chosen for his Master's grant was an honor, and was responsible for some of my best memories. Dr. Winnick was a great teacher who always advocated for those who may have struggled to advocate for themselves. I may not be working in the exact field that I set out to, but with his guidance and mentoring, I am fulfilling my dream while making an impact on young people's lives. I thank you for that Dr. Winnick and will miss you and your quirky sense of humor dearly.

It is with the deepest sympathy and highest sense of respect that this is being sent. I was both an undergraduate and graduate student of Dr. Winnick at Brockport. He had a tremendous impact on my life and i credit him with any success that has come my way. Always interested in the students in the classroom and later in their personal and professional lives. The lessons learned from him have been a significant part of how all of us who were under his guidance will always be so grateful. A tremendous loss. One of the best men, teacher, mentor, role model one could ever have. Thank you for what you did for me.
