Fran was an inspiration to me from the year she was my fifth grade teacher at the Campus School through my student teaching experience at the 'new' Campus School, and during my Masters degree work in literacy at SUNY Brockport to become a reading specialist. She was a supporter, encourager, guide, always giving positive, constructive reinforcement. The ultimate educator, the gentlest of ladies, the strongest of character, that was our dear friend. Rest in peace, Fran, knowing you touched thousands of students, colleagues, and friends in very pleasant and powerful ways.

Fran was my father's close colleague, working with him most of their lives on their favorite subject: educating our populace. She established a scholarship in his name at New York State University, College at Brockport, upon his death, a gift for which I will be forever grateful. In the last several years of her life, Fran re-established contact with me, through Eunice Chesnut, and sent me so many wonderful photos that she had in her possession of Dad and me, and his students, and my Campus School classmates. It was her suggestion to John Halstead, the then President of the College at that time, that I speak at the 175th anniversary of the Campus School -- a reunion held July 2011 -- which I did. She spent many wonderful times with my family and was a behind-the-scenes supervisor of all the teachers who ever taught me in the Campus School. Such a kind, thoughtful, intelligent, and classy lady, who graced everyone and everything she contacted.

She is one of the stabilties from my childhood. I remember her from the Campus School, and of course she was Dad's colleague at the college. She was a classy woman.

Fran was a long time and much valued colleague of mine. She always kept in contact with the emeriti and I truly feel she was a true "great lady." She simply always had so much "class" and was gracious and generous to the core.
