Obituary of George J. Purdy

Purdy, George J. Brockport: Died peacefully on Thursday November 27, 2014 at the age of 85 after a brief illness. Predeceased by his first wife Mary and second wife Jewel, children Alice and Sean, brother Jack, sister Vera (Bob) and daughter-in-law Jo Ann. He is survived by his son David, daughter June (David) Sechowski, daughter-in-law Diane Purdy, grandchildren Michael Purdy, Colleen (Justin) Topalian, Sarah (Geoffrey) Mills, Alice Purdy, Rachael (TJ) Moore, Patrick Sechowski, great-grandchildren Carter, Owen, Evan and Nolan, siblings Tom Cirigliano, Rocky (Sue) Cirigliano, Judy (Jerry) McAvey, sister-in-law Christina Purdy, several nieces and nephews including Duane, Kevin and James Smith, and his beloved pet Sunny Boy. George enjoyed staying fit and participated in walking clubs. He lived for many years in California where he worked with seniors, driving them to appointments or keeping them company. He also lived in Maui, where he was heard to say, "…another day in paradise". George devoted time and energy into helping others learn the good news of God's Kingdom, giving hope to all who take in accurate knowledge and exercise faith in God. Isaiah wrote "He will swallow up death forever, And the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will wipe away the tears from all faces." (Isaiah 25:8) George helped interested people learn about everlasting life by coming to know God, and the one whom he sent, Jesus Christ. "For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who recognizes the Son and exercises faith in him should have everlasting life, and I will resurrect him on the last day." (John 6:40) George agreed with King David who wrote, "My trust is in God's loyal love, forever and ever." Friends may call on Friday December 5th from 7-8:30 pm at the Fowler Funeral Home Inc. 340 West Ave., Brockport. Interment will be held in White Haven Memorial Park in the spring.
