Bergen: Paul Richard List, age 84 died peacefully at home on November 5, 2014 under the loving care of his family and Hospice. He was born in Greece, NY son of the late William A. and Frieda List. He joined the Army in 1951. He worked on his father's vegetable farm where he took produce to the Rochester Public Market. He also laid hardwood floors with his father and brothers in houses throughout the Rochester area. He joined North Greece Fire Department in 1948 and after moving to Bergen, he became a Lifetime member of the Exempts. He joined the Army in 1951.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Myrna (Mason) List who he loved dearly. They were married on June 27, 1953, a match made in Heaven. In 1959, they purchased a Dairy farm in Bergen where he milked cows for 35 years; also had chickens, pigs, raised vegetable and flower plants in his greenhouse and had a large garden. He also maintained a 24 unit apartment complex in Bergen and retired from building maintenance work at the Bergen Town Hall.
Surviving are his children Paula (William) Callahan, Mark (Debra) List, Michael (Marsha) List, Eric List, Richard Paul List, and Pamela (James) Morton, 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, brother William E. (Beverly) List, sisters Audrey (Jack) Smith, Carol (Leo) 16e1gos, and Mary Patricia Giannavola, nieces, nephews, cousins, special
friends Vincent D'Angelo, Beverly Wooton, Jean Stewart, Shirley and Thomas Fingland.
He was preceded by his sisters and brothers-in-law Doris (William) Downs, Gloria (Arthur) Laird, and Jean (Clifford) Henson, his brothers and sister-in-law Vincent (Rose) List, David List, his nephews Vincent List, Jr. and Michael Giannavola.
He was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Brockport where he served 10 years as a Eucharistic Minister. He belonged to Sackett-Merrill-White American Legion Post #575 in Bergen where he served as Adjutant and Chaplain. As a 35-year member of the American Legion, he served four years as Genesee County Commander and 8th District Commander 2002-2003. A 52-year member of Bergen Grange, he also belonged to Genesee County Pomona Grange and NYS Grange. He was on the Town of Bergen's Zoning Board of Appeals for 45 years, serving many years as Chairman. He was appointed to the Genesee County Housing Council in 1994 and represented the Grange on the Genesee County Soil and Water Committee. He also belonged to the Bergen Business and Civic Association and served twice as President and the Bergen Historical Society.
He had a great sense of humor and was noted for his quick and witty remarks.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Strong Memorial Hospital Units 8-1600 and 5-3600 for their excellent care and compassion of our loved one.
Friends may call Saturday and Sunday 2-4 and 6-8 the Fowler Funeral Home, Inc., 340 West Ave., Brockport. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary church, 152 Main St. followed by interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, E. Canal Rd. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make contributions to Bergen Fire Department Rescue Squad, P0 Box 428, Bergen, NY or have Masses said for the repose of his soul.
