Timothy J. Lyman

Brockport/Greece.  Tim passed away peacefully at home on October 18th, 2023, at the age of 74.  Tim was born on November 10th, 1948, the son of Frederick and Phyllis Lyman.  He graduated from the Immaculate Heart Academy in 1966.  Tim attended Potsdam College where he was a member of student government and the campus radio station, received his bachelor’s degree in 1970 and met Marcia, his future wife of 50 years.  He went on to receive his master’s degree from SUNY Brockport in 1988.  During the 1970’s and 80’s he worked in the radio industry, first in Potsdam then Saratoga Springs where he was the general manager of WKAJ AM-900.  He was instrumental in the launch of that station’s sister company ‘Saratoga Cable TV’ (now Spectrum).  He retired in the 1990’s from SUNY Brockport as a communications professor and campus radio station general manager, his most notable accomplishment being a complete overhaul of the campus station equipment and major transmitter power upgrade which put WBSU on the map and exponentially increased listenership.

In his early years Tim played tennis, basketball, and baseball, was later an avid cyclist for many years, enjoyed War History, Classical music, Haagen-Dazs Ice Cream (namely chocolate/family trait), playing pool, dubbing movies for his vast collection to share with others, sailing or traveling with Marcia and spending time with friends & family and their cat Emmy.  He was a quiet person but had a big heart and always did what he could to help others.

He is survived by his son David (Mary) of Rochester, brothers Francis (Judy) of Annapolis, MD, Stephen (Ann) of Caroga Lake, NY, and Jerome (Carol) of Miami, FL, sisters-in-law Kathleen of Albany, NY and Deborah of Falls Church, VA, several other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  He is predeceased by his wife Marcia, parents, in-laws (Gordon and Marguerite Puffer) and four brothers (Nicholas, Daniel, Christopher, and Phillip).

Family will receive friends on Friday November 3, 2023 from 10 am to 12 noon at the Fowler Funeral Home Inc. 340 West Ave., Brockport. A Funeral Service will be held at 12 noon.  Interment will follow in Grove Place Cemetery at 1 pm.
