Obituary of Lorna O. Stinebiser
Lorna Oliver Stinebiser of Brockport died on Friday, June 9, 2023 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Lorna was predeceased by her beloved sister Barbara Oliver and her parents Jennie Cimino Oliver Tirimacco and Louis Oliver as well as her step father Mario Tirimacco.
She is survived by her loving husband Daniel Stinebiser. She is also survived by her two sons Louis and Ben, her daughter-in-law Lorraine and beloved grandson James. In addition, she is survived by her brother Patrick Oliver and his husband Michael Heil of New Jersey, step brother Anthony Tirimacco and his wife Margaret of Pennsylvania, step sister Linda Kirr of Virginia as well as her sister-in-law Ann Stinebiser Lago and her husband Frank. She will be missed by her many cousins, nephews and nieces and especially her many friends.
Lorna enjoyed a thirty-year career in education as both a teacher and a counselor. She taught math in Pennsylvania. After moving to New York, she was a counselor at Arcadia H.S., then worked in Student Affairs at SUNY Brockport. After staying home with her two children, she returned to education as a long-term sub, once as a counselor and twice as a math teacher. Finally, she was hired full time as a math teacher at Brockport High School. Lorna retired from teaching high school math in 2000 after twenty years at Brockport.
After retirement, Lorna was able to spend more time on the activities she loved. She and Dan traveled together and played golf separately. Lorna was active in social justice issues as co-chair of the Human Concerns Committee at Nativity Church. In local politics she was the treasurer of the Town of Clarkson Democratic Committee. For fun, she loved playing Bridge weekly and Mah Jongg with her friends in the Summer.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 15 at 9:30 AM at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Brockport, NY with interment to follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
