John and family, I am saddened by the news of Chris’s passing. I met Chris at the Rite aid/ Walgreens pharmacy in Brockport. I had the pleasure of helping Chris take care of his mother. Chris would stop by the pharmacy just about every other day to pick up a prescription. We would spend what seemed like a half an hour talking about so many things. The cowboys , hockey and his favorite, favorite, favorite topic of all his three nephews, Mitchie, Brandon, and Tyler. He would brag about the goals they scored the night before or the home run they hit. Chris loved those boys more than anything. I know the family has a huge hole in it right now but never forget that your biggest fan will always be looking down on you and there will be a cheering section in heaven screaming for the Hanshaw boys.
Chris I will never forget our talks and the way you took care of mom and shared your family stories with me. You will be greatly missed. See you in heaven my friend
Dave Good
Your favorite pharmacist.

Q: What will you never forget about Christopher?
A: Chris was a kind, compassionate man and loyal friend who always had a story (or seven) to tell. His love for his family was second to none! He loved watching all his nephew’s play ball/hockey and would mentor and cheer them on any chance he could. He was dedicated to his work as a member of the Fire Department, at US Airways, and beyond. Chris had a passion for all sports both playing and watching especially The Dallas Cowboys. He and his character will be sorely missed! RIP my friend.

I will just say this about Goose. There was never a time when we were together and we didn't quote a section of the move Fletch. We would do this a million times and giggle like little school girls every single time!!
Doc: That’s an interesting name, Mr…?
Fletch: Babar.
Doc: Is that with one B or two?
Fletch: One. B-A-B-A-R.
Doc: That’s two.
Fletch: Yeah, but not right next to each other, that’s what I thought you meant.
Doc: Isn’t there a children’s book about an elephant named Babar.
Fletch: Ha, ha, ha. I wouldn’t know. I don’t have any.
Doc: No children?
Fletch: No elephant books.
Love you always Goose!!

I'm trying to articulate my memories of Chris and so many keep popping up. I remember the respectful, fun, witty boy and the man he grew into who kept all those qualities. I think my favorite memories are the ones that are the most recent (if you count the last ten years as recent). Meeting up with him at Barbers and conversations going on around us while we would sit, watch and discuss whatever game was on. Whether it was football, hockey or especially baseball. His smile when anyone would greet him.
Also his unwavering support of people, the fire department, the town and the country.
I will miss him and I promise to root for the Reds at least once this season.

I am sharing a photo of Chris and each of our Dads, who as young men spent summer times together on the family dairy farm in PA. Chris loved to reconnect his Dad with the farm memories and all of the cousins. They made extra efforts to travel to family weddings and reunions over the years in NY, NJ and PA. The next generation carried forward with plenty of bonfires, laughs and s'mores. We would map out our family tree before tracking genealogy became a thing to do. Chris had an exceptional memory for facts of all kinds, was such a joy to be with, and will be missed so much.
Until we meet again, Chris, I am sure there will be no loss for words as you catch up with our ancestors in Heaven. You were an example to so many in your daily life. Thank you for sharing all of your love and many gifts and talents with all of us. Rest in sweet peace.

Had I known.
Had I know this was our last meeting.
This was the last time I would see your smile and hear your laugh. This was our final see you later.
I truly believe that Brockport itself wept at the news. Goose was a friend to all, and the hole left behind will never be filled.
Godspeed my friend, you are so very missed.

We knew Chris in his Little League years and were honored to have been his coach for a season. We knew Chris as friendly, talented, always supportive of, and greatly admired by his teammates. He was a pitcher who was a good hitter too, and an all-around special person. Our sincere condolences to his family and all who shared in his life. He will be remembered always.

My thoughts are with you John during this sad time. I'm so sorry for you and your family and the grief you must be enduring. The world has lost a great person and way too soon. Big hug! I included a photo with Nikki's ok, of better times in memory of him. It's Nikki and I at an airline Christmas party and we are enjoying the company of our wonderful co-worker Goose! I'm sure we embarrassed him at least a few times that night with all that attention. Those were some good times working with Chris. He was like a walking Chevy Chase movie quoting all of them. Lol. He will surely forever be in my heart. I could never forget someone so kind! I remember our lunch breaks in my big black Blazer thinking I'm going to give him a bad reputation but I didnt and nobody could. He was the most good moraled person I've ever known. My condolences.

We thought the world of Chris, whom we have known since we built on Meadowview drive in 1971 and he was a little boy--most often seen with a baseball glove and ball. He babysat for our two sons and introduced them to an early computer, definitely a role model for them. But I most cherish our many casual driveway conversations over the past few years. We share Red Sox Nation status and loved hearing how Chris came to his own interest through his dad. Even more fun was hearing the joy with which Chris talked of his nephews' hockey and baseball exploits. But he never failed to ask about us, and especially my husband's health. Please accept our deepest condolences in this terrible loss. Rest in peace, Chris. We miss you already!

John, Mary Ann, Sue and family,
33 years ago I walked into an unfamiliar fire station at 11:00 PM to ask where I could join an ambulance corps and who was the first person I met…. some guy named Goose! What I didn’t know then was the lifetime friendship I would develop with Chris. Ambulance Corps, floor hockey, fantasy football, Barber’s, he was always there. When I moved back to the area, he was there to help me move in. The little traditions like the call to start the fantasy football season and “push the button” to pick the draft order so it was on the up and up. He made my time in Brockport that much better. I will miss all of these…….. but most importantly I’ll miss Goose. May your memories of Chris help you cope with your loss.

Wow, I didn’t think that our talk at Barber’s would hardly be our last. But your words of encouragement when I needed them most will never be forgotten!! There are a lot of memories that I could share, from explorers back in the late 70’s, fight night after the meeting, (did Mike really run into the ladders on Engine 32, or something a bit more powerful!!) softball at the GE club house, the college, RidgeHouse park(name?)the Barbers Team, and of course the Thursday night Hockey “in the little back gym, you gunna be there!!” The list goes on. Well Chris my friend, you made life fun for a lot of people, you excelled in everything you did, and helped others do the same. “Take the puck up the side and I’ll be on point, then you have to pass, don’t take that shot on your own, geez Rob come on!!”You know that worked for a guy who knew nothing about hockey then but sure enjoyed being there with the crew, and thanks for bringing me a stick to use with the perfect curve!! Well bud, this isn’t goodbye I’ll see you in the little gym and we can get a balboa after if there is such a thing in heaven!! Rest easy brother and “don’t forget to double clutch that engine 32 It sure could be a tricky one sometimes.” Till we meet again, Rest In Peace brother!!

Not sure where to start. Graduated with Goose from Brockport high senior class 1985. Always upbeat, jovial, and great to be around. Made friends with relative ease.
Just saw Chris at my father's service last July. He stopped by to pay his respects and we had a few minutes to catch up on the past 37 years. I was surprised and appreciative of his interest in attending. Certainly representative of his character.
Great memories of our early years. So sad to lose Chris. Best to all that knew and loved him.

Q: What was one of your favorite qualities of Christopher?

He did, and I cherish the memories of his friendship.

How do you say goodbye to someone who was a part of your daily life? We spoke only days before he was found in his bed, lifeless, having joined the dearly departed. We were making plans for the coming weeks and months, only to be cut short, suddenly. We are left with the why? No one will ever know why, though we desperately seek the answer. Through the sudden grief forced upon us, we look for a bright spot in all of this... initially, it seems there is none, and then we redirect our focus to the good fortune of having had him in our lives for as long as we did. We retell stories of the memories we hold dear and the experiences we shared with the "Goose". We look at old photos... we see that infectious smile, and we know God had other plans for him... His work here was done, and he needed our friend somewhere else. Remember the good times, hug a friend, send a text or a card, and let people know you knew him, and we will all miss him. Godspeed Goose! - - CR

It was Goose that introduced me to BFD and BAC. Then competition team, flag football games, floor hockey, Risk games, and it goes on...
He was my leader, my friend, and a brother. He introduced me to my fellow 'mullets'. He brought us all home to meet his family whom he adored. And the Goosleys' always took us in! From dinners to battling Leatherheads and Crazy Trains in fantasy football!
Words cannot express, my hope for God's Comfort for the Goosleys', my sorrow for Brockport who has lost its #1 supporter, and my own sadness. Until we meet again old friend!
Just a photo of the Fire engine he loved!
