Violet M. Merrit
Brockport: Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at the age of 93. She was
predeceased by her husband David, son Dale and her 4 brothers.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Linda (Mike) Schaffer, grandsons Greg (Jen Miller) Schaffer
and Dan (Annmarie) Schaffer, her beloved great grandchildren, several cousins, nieces, nephews, and her dear friends.
Violet grew up in Morton, NY. The oldest of five children born to Jim and Mabel Curtis. She was married to the love of her life, David Merritt, for 47 years until his death in 1993. Vi worked at Brockport General Electric / Black and Decker for over 30 years. Bowling was one of her hobbies. She was on teams for more than 50 years and at 80 she was bowling on two leagues at Brockport Bowl. She also enjoyed games, cards, puzzles and puttering outside in her yard where there were lots of yard ornaments. Throughout her life, Vi most always had a cat as a sidekick to keep her company. There was also a fairly large frog collection including two live African frogs. What Vi enjoyed most was having family nearby to gather for holidays. Her grandsons would spend many weekends with their grandparents while they were growing up.
Thank you to the staff at LeRoy Village Green for filling her final hours with comfort and love.
Graveside service will be held Saturday, August 20 at 11 AM in Lakeside Cemetery, 1649 Moscow Rd., Hamlin. In lieu of flowers consider donating to Mr. Grey’s Strays, Lollypop Farm or Brockport Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Inc.
