Duane C. "Dewey" Thornton
Hamlin: Passed away unexpectedly on Friday October 8, 2021 at the age of 65. Predeceased by his mother-in-law Marge Buechl, father-in-law George (Marie) Buechl, sister-in-law Bonnie Kinney and step-father Don Robinson. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Sue; daughters Heather Thornton of Fredericksburg, VA, Jennifer Thornton, Krista Thornton, Brittany (Joshua) Whalley, Kim (Marco) Villecco, son Andrew (Kayla) Thornton, mother Ruth Robinson of Canada, brother-in-law Jim Buechl of Boston, MA, brother-in-law Dave (Sandy) Kinney of Michigan, 7 grandchildren Abby, Tyler, Jackson, Addison, Jonathon, Mila and Morgan, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Dewey worked 30 plus years at Rochester District Heating, was a member of Local #13, and proudly served in the United States Air Force. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, traveling and sports. Dewey was an avid Toronto Maple Leaf and Buffalo Bills fan. His effusive spirit will be sorely missed.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday October 13th from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Fowler Funeral Home Inc., 340 West Ave., Brockport where masks are mandated and social distancing protocols will be followed. A graveside service with Military Honors will be held on Thursday, 11 am at the Western New York National Cemetery, 1254 Indian Falls Rd., Corfu, NY 14036. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Holley Elementary PTSA, 3800 N. Main St., Holley, NY 14470. A portion of the donations will go toward a scholarship for a high school senior wishing to pursue a career in pipe fitting.
