Jim was a good guy. Cheerful, positive attitude, always seeing the bright side.
He was an asset at Brockport and is sure to be an asset where he's going now.

When it was determined that the son I had just given birth to had a chromosomal disorder I was in shock. Then a family friend came to see me and stayed by my side giving me comfort and helping me to navigate the next couple of days. That friend was Jim Kenney. After a couple of days Seamus was taken up to heaven. Jim continued to provide support and even delivered a eulogy for my son that brought me to tears. Still does today. He told a story of a tapestry that from the bottom was just a bunch of different color strings running here and there with no visable pattern. That is what we see here on earth. But When you look at the top from God's view, it is a beautiful picture of a rose. It reminded me that we may not understand everything that happens here on earth but God is using it all for His glory and it will be beautiful.
A few months later, Jim invited me to a Men's Conference where he would be speaking and told a story about a low point in his life. A time when he was ready to give up his position at the church. He shared about a woman who gave him strength as he watched her maneuver a difficult situation. Then I heard him tell his version of my story and I realized I was that women. The thing is. I only felt strong because of his support during a hard time. I got through it because of him only to find out he got through it beacause of me.
I think of him often and remember how kind he was. I remember how I looked forward to seeing him in the halls at school. He always had a smile and an encouraging word.
He was one of a kind. He was genuine and he will be missed.

Mr. Kenney was my principal and I would still see him around town. He was the kindest man. When he said hi, it made me feel good as a kid and I really appreciate that as an adult. I'm very sorry for your families loss.

Jim hired me in January 1973 to teach 4th grade. As a principal, Jim was very supportive of his teachers and went above and beyond to assure their success.
Being single, Sheila decided I needed a home cooked meal every now and then and welcomed me into their home. Then Sheila decided I needed a wife. In November 1973, she introduced me to my future wife,Chris. Jim kept telling me that the secret to a happy marriage, was to respond “Yes, dear” to whatever Chris said.
They were very supportive of us in the early years of our marriage.when our son, Matt, was born in a blizzard as a premie, Jim was there for us.
A few years ago, Chris, Matt and I drove up to Brockport From South Carolina for Thanksgiving. Matt made sure we stopped to see Jim. It was the last time we saw him - but we know we will see him again.
Debbie, Darrin and Trina, we awe so sorry for your loss.

James was a great inspiration to many around him including all the airports and Aviators he connected with over the many years.
A personal friend and avid supporter of Le Roy Airport (5G0), usually wearing his 5G0 Airport sweatshirt..... he will be missed...by many....his very strong personality of perseverance...a lesson for all of us.
James would come out to fly with Darrin right to the very end.....if there was away for him to get in the airplane he did with the help of Trina and Darrin.
James, "your Flight plan is filed, the weather is clear with visibilities unlimited"
Our special wishes and condolences for James' flight crew that guided him along the way.

Jim Kenney hired me to be an elementary music teacher in 1973, and I spent almost all of my career in Brockport. He had a great influence on me, and was wonderful to my family. Until we meet again.....Duane & Sharon Buttermore

Just a small memory. I'm 48 now, and he was my elementary school principal. I especially remember during the storm of '77 he made sure all the kids were safe getting on the bus, etc. I think he actually had stay at school overnight, maybe not, but he really made sure we were all taken care of
