We lose yet again another Byron Bergen Elementary teacher. I enjoyed teaching first in the old downtown building and then in the new one with Mary. We were part of the Brockport bunch that joined the other wonderful faculty members that bonded so as a family. Mary's teaching and her three girls were such a part of her life. She helped many first graders along into their lives. I'm saddened she's gone. God bless you three girls and your families as you carry on in the strong way she portrayed.

Dear Deb, Kris, and Lori,
My memories of teaching first grade with your Mom are filled with happiness and warm smiles. I remember her strolling down the hall each morning, stopping in to say hello, and chatting a bit. She was a wonderful teammate who listened and added much to our lively meetings. She cared for her students and worked hard to meet their needs. And, above all, she loved and cherished "her three girls." Family was the center of her world. She is a dear friend whose quick wit and keen sense of humor I will miss. Thoughts and prayers are with you. Joanne

Mary gave me a ride toschool at Byron Bergen for 13 + years for which I was so grateful. We shared a lot of good times and laughs about teaching and life in general. She was a good friend!

I began my teaching career in 1976 as a first grade teacher in the Bergen building part of Byron-Bergen Elementary. Mary Hyde and Eleanor Robertson took me under their wings and helped me to succeed. Mary was always there with advice after school and by phone in the evenings. Her insights and encouragement made all the difference in the world for me. Mary was a caring and devoted teacher. I was lucky to have worked with her.
She loved her three girls so very, very much.

Dear Lori, Kris, and Deb,
Mary and I had so many laughs together. I first got to know Mary when she had Chad, our first son.(In my naiveness as a first time mother, I remember telling her that I couldn't understand why she couldn't keep track of Chad's glasses.) We laughed about that for years. On a more serious note, she was a great teammate and friend. I loved her dry humor and caring spirit.

I am saddened by Mary's passing and uplifted by the memories that I hold dear. My position as a kindergarten teacher in a classroom near Mary's first grade room gave us frequent opportunities to share stories about our experiences with young students. Mary's "tongue in cheek" wit encouraged us all to focus on the humor that came with life in the classroom, and her dedication to teaching and family often inspired us.
My thoughts and prayers are with her family. May you be comforted by the knowledge that your mom touched many lives in ways that will endure forever.
Love,
Mary Harrison

You have my warm regards. I too know the pain of losing a dear mother. May it help you to know that the hearts of others are deeply touched by your loss. Although our hearts ache, we can find strength in the God of all comfort who is near to those with a broken-heart.
