So many good evelasting memories of my time with Rawle. Ranked in the top 20 women players in the USA I used a move Rawle played on me. It comes in handy and is a part of my repertoire.

Rawle Farley is the reason I am an economist today and why I have a Ph. D. from Harvard University. I started studying economics with Dr. Farley in the fall of 1970 and he became my mentor. He saw something in me that I had not recognized and he challenged me intellectually in a way I had never been before. He was a great teacher and his classes were never dull. He talked to us and told us things about his own professional life that opened new horizons for me. He advised in class one day that we should study an area of the world we wanted to live, and then proceeded to tells us about some of his exotic world travels. I grew up in Medina, New York, a rural town of less that 5,000, and commuted thirty miles to campus for two years. I had never lived away from home when I left to go to Harvard in the fall of 1972. I came to SUC Brockport from Genesee Community College with an Associates degree in accounting. That must have been some letter of recommendation that he wrote for me to open the door to Harvard University. In the areas of population and development economics which I studied with Dr. Farley, I never felt anything less than well educated for my doctoral course work. It is with great admiration, gratitude, and genuine affection that I remember Dr. Farley.

I joined the Brockport Business faculty after Dr. Farley retired, but I met him on several occasions. He was a consummate gentleman who was as curious about my personal background as my academic credentials. His influence on the Department of Business Administration and Economics is immeasurable.

Rawle was a man of immense intellectual energy with an ability to impart that love of knowledge to others in a gentle, understanding manner. His contributions academically were notable but his and Ena's gift to society of their sons was truly impressive. Our deepest condolences to the family.

Dr. Farley was someone who always managed to make me feel positive whenever I saw him. This would happen regardless of whether he defeated me at chess or not.
My condolences and best wishes go out to the family.

Dear family of Dr. Rawle Farley; When my dad passed, a friend sent me this and it gave me great comfort...I hope it will do the same for you:
"You can shed tears that he is gone, or you can smile because he has lived. You can close your eyes and pray that he'll come back, or you can open your eyes and see all that he's left. Your heart can be empty because you can't see him, or you can be full of the love that you shared. You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday, or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. You can remember him only that he is gone, or you can cheris his memory and let it live on. You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back. Or you can do what he'd want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on".

Rawle Farley was a friend of old and still in my opinion the only person who had a valid economic blueprint for the development of Guyana and one that is ironically as valid today as it was 40-50 years ago. At 90, I can appreciate his full life and send my love and best wishes to his wife, sons and family. WILFRED

Dr Rawle Farley was my mentor. I note that in all of the obituaries I have read so far, nothing was mentioned of his stay and Professorship @ The InterAmerican University of San German, Puerto Rico. Dr Farley has influenced many Caribbean Economists including myself. I am deeply grateful to him for his contributions to my development as an Economist. We all salute you Rawle. Our condolences goes out to his Dear wife and his children.

I just today heard about Dr. Farley's death. I played him at chess sometimes when I lived in Rochester and saw him occasionally on my return visits to Roc., the last time being in September of '09. He was a very tough opponent. In tournament play, I beat him three times, he beat me five times, and we had four draws. I'm sorry to hear he's gone. My condolences to his family.
