Obituary of Christine V. Sentiff

Brockport: 93, passed away on October 8, 2010 at Lakeside at Beikirch. Born on July 17, 1917 in Utica, NY, Christine was the daughter of Garrett C. and Anna K. VanDyke. She attended Utica schools and graduated from Excelsior School of Business in Utica. She also attended Utica College and Syracuse University. Christine worked at Moser and Cotins in Utica and then became an advertising media buyer at the Rumrill Company in Rochester, NY. She married Dr. Robert Root, a journalism professor at Syracuse University, in 1962. He died in 1970. In 1072 she married Harry J. Sentiff and moved to Brockport where she became involved in many civic organizations.
She was a member of Fig Twig, a long-time volunteer at the Cupola Nursing Home and later at the Lakeside Hospital gift shop. She also served on several hospital committees. Christine was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Brockport where she served as a Deacon and also on the Board of the Rochester Presbyterian Home. She was active at Seymour Library where she was president of its Board. She served on the library site location and fund-raising committees when the present building was being constructed. She was founder of the Friends of Library and a weekly volunteer there for many years. Christine enjoyed membership in the History Club and was an avid reader and writer and enjoyed her painting. She belonged to the Stafford Country Club where she golfed.
Survivors include her nieces, Judith Borger of Parkersburg, WV, and Susan Morris of Cleverdale, NY and several great and great, great nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 35 State St., Brockport on Wednesday, October 13, at 11:00. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Seymour Library or the First Presbyterian Church of Brockport.
