Obituary of Joan B. Smith

Smith, Joan B. Brockport: After a courageous 6 year battle with leukemia, she passed away peacefully at home on March 14, 2012 at the age of 88. Predeceased by her husband Louie D. Smith Jr. She is survived by her loving daughters Anne Smith and Carol (Peter) Jelinek of Minn., and her grandsons Nicholas and Nathan Jelinek. Joan was a career teacher at the Brockport Campus School as well as Brockport Central School. Joan was also a volunteer for many organizations most notable for her work as a volunteer in medical records at Lakeside Hospital and a member of the altar guild at St. Luke's. She was a member of the Magnolia Twig and a supporter of Amnesty International. Family and friends may call Friday from 3-7 pm at the Fowler Funeral Home Inc. 340 West Ave., Brockport. Joan's Memorial Service will be held Saturday March 17, 12:00 noon at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 14 State St., Brockport. Interment will be held privately at Lakeview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 14 State St., Brockport, NY14420 or Interlakes Oncology, 156 West Ave, Brockport 14420.
