Remembering times with Alana

Alana Johnson was my grandmother and we shared many beautiful memories together. My grandmother was the one who ignited the spark for many passions in my life including Horseback riding and my relationship with Jesus. Her free and humorous spirit live on in the many games we played with her, countless of hours spent laughing at her jokes, and the touching holiday and birthday cards and calls every year. My grandmother was a wonderful woman and taught me so much about living a life with Jesus and being the woman I am today. She always made sure we knew we were loved and important in her life with the time spent with her and different ways she showed her love towards us when we were away. I love you grandma. Thank you for molding me into the woman I am today.

Dear Uncle Chuck, Lisa, Heather and family,
I was so sorry to hear of Aunt Alana’s passing. I have so many fond memories of her when our families used to get together during my growing up years. More recently, I cherish the trips that Paige and I have made in the last 10-20 years. We’ve had many good times together playing games around the kitchen table.
Aunt Alana was always good to give clear directions on how to play each game.
The popcorn was awesome too!
As I think about my Aunt Alana, the following comes to mind:
She enjoyed having fun and was fun to be with.
She was a great cook.
She was a good listener.
She chose her words carefully.
She was a good planner.
She was a woman of wisdom.
She loved to be with her family.
She loved her Lord and Savior.
Uncle Chuck, I can vaguely remember your wedding day. I think I was around 8 at the time. God certainly did an amazing thing when He brought you two together.
He’s a great God!
I am praying that God will give you all a supernatural awareness of His peace at this time. Love you all.

Dear Alana,
Thank you for being such a wonderful friend to us, for sharing our monthly dinner and game nights, for being part of our annual Christmas party, and for joining the spontaneous spring picnics in Churchville Park. It was just yesterday that we were involved in all these things, and now you have gone on ahead of us to see Jesus.
We will remember and cherish all our times together. Especially the game times together where we all wanted to win so much. You were such a great sport, whether winning (which was most of the time) or ‘letting us win’. We will treasure the June trip to Sherwood Inn in Skaneateles (our favorite place from Tully) for your anniversary. We will remember gatherings at Life and Light Camp for Keen Kamp and playing games.
Last Sunday morning - December 31 - at Pearce Church, we looked over in the right center section where you and Chuck sit, where you sat one week earlier on December 24, and we were really missing your presence. I know you would have loved the closing hymn – a wonderful hymn with a familiar melody and majestic words “Behold our God”. It was very special, thinking of these words:
Behold Our God
Who has held the oceans in his hands?
Who has numbered every grain of sand?
Kings and nations tremble at his voice
All creation rises to rejoice
Behold our God, seated on his throne
Come, let us adore him
Behold our king, nothing can compare
Come, let us adore him
Who has given counsel to the Lord?
Who can question any of his words?
Who can teach, the one who knows all things?
Who can fathom all his wondrous deeds?
Behold our God, seated on his throne
Come, let us adore him
Behold our king, nothing can compare
Come, let us adore him
Who has felt the nails upon his hands?
Bearing all the guilt of sinful man
God eternal, humbled to the grave
Jesus, Savior, risen now to reign
Behold our God, seated on his throne
Come, let us adore him
Behold our king, nothing can compare
Come, let us adore him
You will reign forever (let Your glory fill the Earth)
You will reign forever (let Your glory fill the Earth)
You will reign forever (let Your glory fill the Earth)
You will reign forever (let Your glory fill the Earth)
You will reign forever (let Your glory fill the Earth)
You will reign forever (let Your glory fill the Earth)
You will reign forever (let Your glory fill the Earth)
You will reign forever (let Your glory fill-)
Behold our God, seated on his throne
Come, let us adore him
Behold our king, nothing can compare
Come, let us adore
Behold our God, seated on his throne
Come, let us adore him
Behold our king, nothing can compare
Come, let us adore him
At first I wished you were there because I know you would have loved to sing that hymn and to worship God. But then, I realized, you were actually there, in His presence singing that song so loud and clear with all your might and with all your heart. Love and memories until we gather together around His Throne for all eternity.
